San Diego’s Best Burgers: Chicago Fire Grill
Chicago Fire Grill is a place specializing in Chicago Italian Beef Sandwiches, Chicago hot dogs and sausages. However, we have never tried those items. The first time we came the owner recommended the burger and it is so good we have been getting that ever since. Chicago Fire Grill makes some of the best burgers in San Diego.

There are actually 3 burgers at Chicago Fire Grill. My go to is the Big Shoulders. This is half pound beef patty with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. My wife likes, I mean loves the Greek Town. This is a half-pound lamb patty with feta cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. It comes with a special Tzatziki sauce.
According to my wife the Greek Town is now here favorite burger in San Diego, surpassing Hodad’s. I tend to agree, especially when you factor in the quality of the fries and the price. The Big Shoulders burger is $8, while the Greek Town and the Breakfast in America (basically a Big Shoulders topped with bacon and an egg) is $9. However, you can add an order of fries AND a craft beer for only $2 more. This is cheaper and much better than the newly opened Shake Shack across the street at the UTC mall.
The quality of this place is due to the fact that the owner, George, is very much hands on. He takes the time to talk to you and will give his recommendations and opinions on food. He talked about a perfect level fop medium doneness for a burger and it actually came out that way (that does not seem to happen at most places).
The menu also includes gyros, salads and some interesting soups (lemon meatball). Really, we need to sample more items, but we just love the hamburgers too much. I would love to try the Italian Beef as this is something I have tried to make at home (including giardiniera).
Also, if you want to come here just for a beer they have $4 pints from places like Stone and AleSmith. That is about the cheapest around. The place is small and located in a crowded, but upscale strip mall. There is a TV and small “bar” area overlooking the kitchen.
