As mentioned, I like to make homemade bacon on our Big Green Egg. You can see the recipe here. The good news is this recipe works fine with regular bacon.
I got the idea from Meathead at Amazing Ribs. His recipe basically just involves sprinkling some brown sugar on bacon. I decided to up the ante by adding some maple syrup and cinnamon.
I mixed up ½ cup brown sugar with 1/3 cup maple syrup and a teaspoon of cinnamon. This was enough to coat about 8 slices of bacon.
You definitely want to coat your cookie pan with aluminum foil before you put the bacon on the rack. Otherwise, the sugar mixture will make a mess.
I also cooked some regular bacon slices alongside my candied bacon. This made it easier to tell when the bacon was done. It took close to half an hour in a 400-degree oven.
Our Candied Bacon Recipe is a delicious indulgence that we will probably only do on special occasions. Next up I am going to try chocolate coated bacon.,
