Strawberry Shortcake

Cole Kid Cooks: Strawberry Shortcake Recipe

I love strawberries.  Most of my families love strawberries.  The only one that doesn’t is my sister who hates fruit.  So when she went out of town I decided to try and make Strawberry Shortcake.  This is my guide to a kid making Strawberry Shortcake.

This is a easy, fun to make recipe.  Get a whole bunch of strawberries.  Make sure and wash them and pick out the bad ones that are mushy with spots.  Cut the green top off and slice them half.  The big ones you can cut into more pieces.

My mom has a secret for strawberries.  She adds brown sugar and some black pepper.  The pepper is supposed to make it sweeter.  I asked my dad and he found this web site that said black pepper helps strawberries taste like candy.

The really fun part is making the dough.  I used a special tool to mash the butter and flour together.  Then you roll it into a ball with your hands.  Make sure to wash your hands a lot!  Using a roller pin you roll it out into a flat dough.  You want to cut the dough out into circles so I used a round drinking cup.  I was able to make 10 dough pieces.
