San Diego Beaches: Seascape Surf and Del Mar Shores in Solana Beach
Solana Beach is a small town north of San Diego that has about 2 miles of beachfront. Del Mar Shores is the southernmost beach, on the border with Del Mar. Seascape Surf is directly to the north. Both beaches ss well below bluffs and provide a great place to get away from the crowds. This is our overview of Seascape Surf and Del Mar Shores in Solana Beach.
- Beach Type: Classic wide sand beach backed by bluffs
- Access: Walk down long stairs or walk north from Del Mar
- Parking: Free street parking
- Facilities: None
- Good For: Laying out in the Sun, scenery, swimming, surfing, family day at the beach, tidepools
- Not Good For: Ease of access
Technically Seascape Surf and Del Mar Shores are two separate beaches. However, we think of them as the same beach. They both are reached by fairly steep staircases. Seascape Surf is at the bottom of the stairs at 501 S. Sierra Ave. Del Mar Shores is from the staircase a few blocks down at 180 Del Mar Shores Terrace.
This is a residential area and most parking is found along the street around Sierra Ave. You can also walk to these beaches from either Del Mar North Beach or Fletcher Cove. Fletcher Cove is about a half mile north of Seascape Surf, while Del Mar North is adjacent to Del Mar Shores.
The advantage of limited access is that it generally means limited crowds. Seascape Surf and Del Mar Shores are wide open beaches, without the crowds you would typically find.
During low tides, there is also a great tide pool scene at the south of Del Mar Shores where it borders with Del Mar North. This is one of our favorite beaches to visit during the winter months. We love both the tide pools and the dogs running around on Del Mar North Beach.
