San Diego’s Best Burger: Crazee Burger Review

Share

We first learned about Crazee Burger when it was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.  Since that ownership has changed hands and the original location has moved.  However, Crazee Burger is now better than ever.  This is one of our favorite burger places in San Diego.

Crazee Burger was opened in North Park 2006 as Tioli’s Crazee Burger by two guys from Germany.  A second location in Old Town is now closed.  The operation is under new ownership and in 2015, the restaurant moved a few blocks south to its current location.

The original Crazee Burger got its name from the exotic meats it used in its burgers.  Burger choices went far beyond beef to include lamb, pork, alligator, ostrich, venison, camel, elk and even kangaroo.

Today the exotic meat burgers are still an option (although we haven’t seen kangaroo recently).  However, the core of the menu features traditional Angus burgers with unique toppings.

We have yet to make a dent in the wide range of burgers on the menu  We actually love the basic signature burger which is a 6-ounce Angus patty for $8 ($1 more for cheese).  Another favorite is the Jamaican burger which is a blackened patty with pepper jack cheese and peaches for $10!

The Angus specialty burgers are priced in the $10 range.  The exotic meat burgers range from $12 to $14.  While this may sound expensive, Crazee Burger has great specials.  Daily combos range from $10 to $12 and usually include a specialty burger, fries and a soft drink ($2 more for beer).

Our favorite time to come is for Happy Hour which runs every day from 2:23 PM to 6:19 PM.  During happy hour there are $4 draft beer specials or $4 wine by the glass.  There are also burger specials including a burger and fries special for $7.50.

Beyond burgers, Crazee Burger has salads, sausage, hot dogs and chicken and fish sandwiches.  There is a relatively large patio and seating area and this is the perfect place to hang out mid-day.  Along the walls, there is artwork for sale.

Crazee Burger

Overall, we are surprised Crazee Burger does not get more recognition as one of San Diego’s top burger joints.  It is right in the center of one of San Diego’s most exciting dining areas.  Many of our favorite pizza places are right down the street.  With so many options, maybe Crazee Burger gets overlooked.  Or people may just get overwhelmed by all the burger choices.

Crazee Burger

We admit we have tended to stick with the basics.  As mentioned, the signature burger is excellent.  In the coming months, our goal will be to challenge ourselves to try more options.  Possibly even some of the exotic meats!
