Best Garlic Press

Many times when cooking we slice garlic by hand.  However, it is always convenient to be able to quickly press garlic, especially in large quantities.  Unfortunately, we have been dissatisfied with many garlic presses we have used.  So this article is an overview of the best garlic press we have found.  We also have listed some other recommendations from our research.

Our Favorite Garlic Press

Our garlic press of choice is the Rosle Stainless Steel 9-inch garlic press.  We have had this for years and love it.  Rosle is a German company and we have several of their products that we really like.

However, an important note is that it appears Rosle products are now manufactured in China not Germany.  Our concern is this may have caused quality to slip.  We paid about $40 for our garlic press and it is now on Amazon for about $47.

Rosle also has a newer garlic press that goes for about $40.  This version also includes a scraper and is designed for pressing ginger as well as garlic.  Personally I would stick with the original model.  I appreciate the simplicity and frankly this seems like an extra part that could break.

A beauty of the Rosle garlic press is that it is easy to use and clean.  Cleaning a garlic press can be a chore.  The Rosle garlic press cleans by hand but is also dishwasher safe.  The head opens for easy cleaning.  Pressing garlic is simple and quick.  You can even do unpeeled cloves.  However, we usually peel the garlic.  It is not much trouble if you know the proper tricks.

The Rosle garlic press is extremely sturdy and has lasted us for well over a decade.  Prior to that purchase we had probably gone through 10 different garlic presses in a few years.  This was well worth the $40 investment.

World We Buy it Again?

A big question is what will do if we need to replace our Rosle garlic press?  We have actually had this happen with our Rosle can opener which we also love.  We are on our third Rosle can opener.  Not because they broke but because we lost them.

If I did have to buy a new garlic press I would probably want our exact model, not the new Rosle model with the scraper.  The new Rosle garlic press has a curved design.  If you look at the bad reviews on Amazon you will note several complaining that the curved design makes it harder to clean.  Also the scraper gets in the way according to some reviews.

Personally I would not hesitate to spend money on a quality garlic press.  However, I might consider the Kuhn Rikon garlic press.  It gets good reviews and is slightly cheaper.

If I wanted to go budget the best garlic press in that range would be either the Orblue, Alpha Grillers or the UberChef.
