There are actually two Tony Pepperoni locations in San Diego County (and one in Orange County). The original is in Oceanside, while the one we have been to is the newer Carmel Mountain Ranch location. There is also one scheduled to open in Escondido.
Tony Pepperoni is located off-the-beaten track in a suburban neighborhood on a hill above Rancho Bernardo High School. This was the longtime home of several pizza places, most notably Graziano’s Pizzeria.
For long ago graduates returning to the Carmel Mountain area, the interior of Tony Pepperoni will be a shock. Graziano’s was dark and looked old. Now place has been gutted and has a bright interior. Tony Pepperoni is huge and has not only arcade games, but pool tables and a lounge area.
The menu at Tony Pepperoni is huge with pastas, sandwiches, and salads. The pizza is solid pizza parlor style cooked on a state-of-the-art conveyor belt.
A big attraction is the different crust styles you can choose from including sesame seed, garlic, Cajun, butter cheese and more. We have stuck with the basics, but the San Diego Reader did an article on Tony Pepperoni raving about the sesame crust.
The Reader article nails it in on the head when it comes to Tony Pepperoni. This is simple pizza that should please almost everyone. This is the definition of our good old American pizza parlor.
After multiple visits to the Carmel Mountain location, Tony Pepperoni made our list of top 10 pizza parlors in San Diego. This is a category that does not compete with the gourmet pizza places or the NY-style thin crust places. This is the type of place that serves a solid pizza and is fun for the whole family.
