San Diego’s Best Pizza: Killer Pizza From Mars Review
In our quest for the best pizza in San Diego we have divided pizzas into four broad categories. Our fourth category we call Good Old American Pizza Parlor style. This is the type of place that is fun for the whole family. Generally, they have games for the kids and plenty of TVs playing sports and beer for the adults. Killer Pizza From Mars in Escondido definitely falls into this category.

The first thing you will note about Killer Pizza From Mars is the décor. The outer space/alien theme is everywhere. Of course, kids love it. For adults there is plenty of beer and sports playing on TV. The menu is massive and goes well beyond pizza.
The pizza is actually really good here. This is much better than what you would find in a typical chain pizza place. It is what I call a medium size crust. Much weighter than New York thin crust, but nothing like deep dish or Sicilian. They have all kinds of toppings. The wackiest one we ever got was gummi bears (on my son’s individual pizza).
I like the Pizza Bread they have. Basically this is a think French Bread like loaf with sauce, cheese and toppings for $6. They also offer 8” individual pies for $7 plus $0.75 per topping. The other sizes are 12”, 14” and the large at 16 inch. Because of the thicker crust a large will actually feed more than your typical 18 inch New York thin crust.
The sticker price of Killer Pizza From Mars is a little on the high side. A large 16 inch is $19 plus $2.25 per topping. Large specialty pizzas are $26.29. However, there are almost always coupons and specials. Many of these coupons can be found right on the website.
The weekday lunch specials at Killer Pizza From Mars are a great deal. For $7 you get your choice of a soft drink with your choice of an 8” inch with 2 toppings, a Pizza Bread and a salad, a slice and a salad or any sandwich.
There are quite a few beers on draft, including local brewery favorites like Ballast Points. The large menu includes salads, sandwiches, pasta, chicken wings and a range of the typical unhealthy appetizers. The salads are a favorite of the ladies in our family.
Being in Escondido, Killer Pizza From Mars is a little off the beaten track. We like to stop here before or after a visit to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Being right off the I-15 freeway it is also a good stop when heading north towards Temecula, Palm Springs or Big Bear (or coming back). Note there is another location in Oceanside which we have never been to.
